EDITOR’S NOTE 1.22
I’ve been a bit absent on the blog these past couple of months as life has taken ahold of both my time and heart. Between the steady holiday season at the shop and Sam (our german shepherd) being sick on and off since Halloween my time and energy needed to be other places. I’m sure you all can relate to a time like this in your own life. We sadly lost Sam to brain cancer right after the new year and to say it has shifted our entire world + perspective would be the understatement of the century.
Nothing truly prepares you for the darkest times of your life but the perspective + priority shifts are needed to start working through the grief + sadness we are currently working through in the new year. This month I’ve put my energy towards purging + organizing the house to help make it feel like home again - if that’s even possible. Resfreshing our spaces to create calm just makes sense right now as we navigate a new normal.
Right after Sam’s passing we traveled down to Nashville to get away for a few days and give us a distraction. It is our home away from home. Our safe place that we can escape to when needed. Time in Tennessee is good for the soul. We ate some amazing food favorites, did some shopping + restocking of our Nashville staples, listened to live music, went to a hockey game, and just had the time to finally sit down and take a much needed breath.
I’ve been taking some time off from work as well which has been so nourishing. Running a small business is not for the faint of heart but after the busy holiday season some time off was more than needed. I have the best team that have been taking the reins on the weekends while I go in during the week to ship + refresh the shop with new arrivals.
A new passion has surfaced for me that I am excited about and feel it has always been on my mind but I wasn’t confident in the my skillset. Photoshoots have been a love of mine since my days at Iowa State styling for the college magazine. Fast forward to now my greatest passion is creating a vision + mood and visually telling a story for my own small jewelry brand and other small brands as well. Learning a new skill can be challenging but I’m hopeful that with time I can grow. Starting something new can be quite scary but a wise woman recently told me if you are brave enough to build something once, you can do it again (thank you Brenda).
The next couple of months I would like to focus on making our house feel like home again. We have been talking about doing some projects around the house to help make it feel like ours. First up is the master bedroom as we found new bedding while we were in Nashville to refresh the space as well as some wood detail + new paint for the walls. Next we will be tackling the backyard as our deck is needing some serious love as well as possibly a new lower dining area as well as extending the garden a bit. These are the things that are getting me through and keeping my mind busy.
To a new season ahead.
