IT’S JUST A NUMBER
When it comes to jean sizes I’m the first to admit that my thoughts have always been the smaller the size the better. Now about to enter my 30’s and a new season of life this is a super unhealthy way of thinking about my body as it correlates to what size of denim fits me in that given moment. I’ve struggled with this for most of my adult life after graduating from high school and through out the years. It isn’t about if you can fit into the smaller size or not. It’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin and highlighting the beautiful body you were given in this lifetime. It might not seem so straight forward to you right now but it truly is just a number.
I personally try to be as healthy as I can but with a very full schedule that isn’t always the case. As I edit my own closet for the upcoming fall season I want to have pieces that I actually love to wear and feel good in. If that is going a size up in my jeans to make them feel more comfortable for my body right now then so be it. This is something that has taken time and work to get to a point where I am saying this to myself much less thinking it. Gone are the days where I will be putting on the tightest clothes I can find in the smallest sizes just to reassure myself that if I am a certain size I am doing everything right. These thoughts stop now as I am entering into a new season of life where what size I wear isn’t the most important thing when shopping or getting dressed in the morning.
Currently I have been so inspired by wide leg + somewhat baggy fitting denim. I’ve always chosen a more modest way of dressing as I am not one that likes to show a lot of skin. Modesty doesn’t have to mean frumpy or outdated. It can be interpreted in so many ways and can be expressed differently by everyones own personal style. For fall I’m leaning into this wide leg phenomenon by choosing denim with more stretch so they are both comfortable + stylish. I plan to pair them with my favorite basic tees, and button down shirts. Trousers are getting a spotlight in my fall wardrobe as well and I’m excited to add a few new wide leg options to my assortment. Flats have always had a place in my heart and in my opinion the pointier the better. A few pairs of pointed toe flats in warmer tones are in route and I can’t wait to show you how I plan on styling them for the new season ahead. As for handbags this is where I like to invest instead of piling up inexpensive bags that I will only wear once. I like to take the time to search for my next bag that will stand the test of time and be in my closet for years. These are the pieces I truly cherish and that can be passed down someday.
In today’s world it can be tough to not compare to others and be infected with imposter syndrome. It might take some time to work through and remind yourself that your jean size doesn’t define who you are or doesn’t measure how beautiful you are. You are filled with so much love, grace, and beauty. Your gifts and talents outshine all of it. Life is too short to be fixated on things like this. Just remind yourself { I have to remind myself daily } it is always just a number.
